The Liffey Champion of 6 January 2018 reports on the cleaning up and uncovering of the second (and smaller) basin at the erstwhile Leixlip Spa, which was adjacent to the Royal Canal at Louisa Bridge in Leixlip.
The spa has a connection to the canal in that it was the building of the Royal Canal that led to the springs that feed the spa being uncovered. The spas were developed after this.
Long since disused, the larger basin was uncovered many years ago and the cleaning up of the second basin adds to the interest in this area, which already has the aquaduct over the Rye River Valley and a former canal cottage on the latter. There is also a spillover on the Dublin side of the aquaduct, carrying water away to the Rye River below.
