{"id":139,"date":"2021-02-06T15:20:17","date_gmt":"2021-02-06T15:20:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/industrialheritageireland.info\/Blog\/?p=139"},"modified":"2021-02-06T15:21:05","modified_gmt":"2021-02-06T15:21:05","slug":"rail-line-to-navan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/industrialheritageireland.info\/Blog\/index.php\/2021\/02\/06\/rail-line-to-navan\/","title":{"rendered":"Rail line to Navan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meathchronicle.ie\/2021\/02\/05\/wheels-start-rolling-on-rail-line-study\/\">Meath Chronicle<\/a> reports on a new assessment of a railway line to Navan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As with most things in this country, there are so many layers of &#8220;government&#8221; and each expects some other layer to do the work but wants to be able to claim the credit when something eventually happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let me give Meath County Council and its councillors some advice. You want a railway line to Navan? Then zone 1km each side of the existing trackbed from M3 Parkway to Navan for high density housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Better still? Establish SDZ zones in those areas and include financing for a railway line with the planning permission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;d also suggest approaching it in two phases. Zone sufficient land as far as the R125 outside Dunshaughlin, allowing for an extension of the line to &#8220;Dunshaughlin Parkway&#8221;, some 700m south of the original Drumree Station.
