{"id":2070,"date":"2026-05-24T07:12:44","date_gmt":"2026-05-24T06:12:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/industrialheritageireland.info\/Blog\/?p=2070"},"modified":"2026-05-24T07:13:21","modified_gmt":"2026-05-24T06:13:21","slug":"electricity-costs-in-ireland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/industrialheritageireland.info\/Blog\/index.php\/2026\/05\/24\/electricity-costs-in-ireland\/","title":{"rendered":"Electricity costs in Ireland"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I normally work on the basis of not believing anything government related until it has been officially denied by RTE or the BBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having said that, in a rare act of explaining something in simple English, RTE has a very good article explaining why <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/news\/ireland\/2026\/0523\/1574815-ireland-electricity-prices\/\">electricity costs in Ireland are the highest in Europe.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TLDR, electricity is more expensive in Ireland due to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Higher costs generally, which then feed into supplies\/staff costs\/taxes etc borne by electricity providers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Higher wages\/salaries in Ireland relative to other countries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The size of Ireland&#8217;s grid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I was pleasantly surprised to see this last one mentioned as normally, anything that implies that the proliferation of one off housing in rural Ireland comes with a price tag is deemed to be the elephant in the corner of the room and is not talked about or, worse still, its existence is denied.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I normally work on the basis of not believing anything government related until it has been officially denied by RTE or the BBC.
