{"id":308,"date":"2021-07-18T10:21:02","date_gmt":"2021-07-18T09:21:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/industrialheritageireland.info\/Blog\/?p=308"},"modified":"2021-07-18T11:35:04","modified_gmt":"2021-07-18T10:35:04","slug":"bray-head-no-4-tunnel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/industrialheritageireland.info\/Blog\/index.php\/2021\/07\/18\/bray-head-no-4-tunnel\/","title":{"rendered":"Bray Head No. 4 Tunnel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In 1917, due to coastal erosion, the railway line between Bray and Greystones was deviated inland for the final time (for the moment!) with the construction of Bray Head No. 4 Tunnel. This commenced almost immediately south of Bray Head No. 3 Tunnel and replaced a long section from there to just north of the harbour at Greystones. Part of this route had already been deviated in 1888 &#8211; the remains of which can be seen on GoogleMaps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d1547.61425310756!2d-6.07656034161777!3d53.17328999498577!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x0%3A0x0!2zNTPCsDEwJzIzLjgiTiA2wrAwNCczMS43Ilc!5e1!3m2!1sen!2sie!4v1626599655656!5m2!1sen!2sie\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>At 1,084 yards long, this is the second longest railway tunnel in use in Ireland and just north of the south portal, there is an air vent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Very few photos of this exist and I am not surprised.
