{"id":902,"date":"2022-12-06T21:59:10","date_gmt":"2022-12-06T21:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/industrialheritageireland.info\/Blog\/?p=902"},"modified":"2022-12-06T21:59:12","modified_gmt":"2022-12-06T21:59:12","slug":"the-conflict-on-irish-railways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/industrialheritageireland.info\/Blog\/index.php\/2022\/12\/06\/the-conflict-on-irish-railways\/","title":{"rendered":"The Conflict on Irish Railways"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>RTE has an article entitled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/history\/irish-free-state\/2022\/1123\/1337904-the-conflict-on-irish-railways-1922-23\/\">Enemy lines: the conflict on Irish Railways 1922-23<\/a>&#8221; on their site, looking at aspects of Ireland&#8217;s railways 100 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A worthwhile read, I did notice an error in photograph selection, with RTE publishing a stock photo from SSPL\/Getty Images, which they claim is of a Great Southern &amp; Western Railway locomotive at Inchicore Works in Dublin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will be the first to admit that I have little to no interest in trains (including locomotives) and I know nothing about what type of locomotive this is or anything about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, I did note that the initials on the side of the locomotive are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;G&amp;SWR&#8221; and not &#8220;GS&amp;WR&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A small difference, but significant in ruling this out as an Irish locomotive and also determining that the photo is not Inchicore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was a British railway company &#8211; the Glasgow &amp; South Western Railway &#8211; the initials of which were &#8220;G&amp;SWR&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>RTE has an article entitled &#8220;Enemy lines: the conflict on Irish Railways 1922-23&#8221; on their site, looking at aspects of Ireland&#8217;s railways 100 years ago.
