{"id":96,"date":"2020-11-26T11:26:26","date_gmt":"2020-11-26T11:26:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/industrialheritageireland.info\/Blog\/?p=96"},"modified":"2020-11-26T11:26:26","modified_gmt":"2020-11-26T11:26:26","slug":"touche","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/industrialheritageireland.info\/Blog\/index.php\/2020\/11\/26\/touche\/","title":{"rendered":"Touche!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I came upon an entry in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.buildingsofireland.ie\/buildings-search\/building\/13831015\/euston-street-greenore-greenore-county-louth\">NIAH database for 10 Euston Street, Greenore<\/a>, which included the following statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8221; Built for the workers of the Great Northern Railway, which was completed in 1873&#8243;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the site includes an option to email suggested amendments, I did so, pointing out that the houses were built for the Dundalk Newry and Greenore Railway. I received the following response:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8221; Our  records suggest that the workers&#8217;  houses on the east side of Euston Street were completed in 1872, which,  strictly speaking, means that they were built by the Dundalk and  Greenore Railway (D&amp;GR) Company.\u00a0 The company was renamed a year later to include Newry in the title. &#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Point taken and in fairness to the NIAH, they have advised that they will be amending the record in due course to remove reference to the Great Northern Railway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I came upon an entry in the NIAH database for 10 Euston Street, Greenore, which included the following statement: &#8221; Built for the workers of the Great Northern Railway, which was completed in 1873&#8243;.
