Railway Encounters is primarily a book about the railway in Greystones Co. Wicklow. However, in getting to Greystones and its railway presence, the author sets the
scene, both of the development of railway locomotion and the personalities involved.
The second part of the book looks at specific historic incidents which were of relevance to the railway to Greystones - including the Bray Head accident of 1867. In
doing so, the author has concentrated on aspects that have tended to be overlooked by mainstream railway historians and in this regard, his coverage sheds a
useful, alternative look at the events.
The final part of the book moves into a more social outlook at the railway and those who use it/were affected by it.
