The station here opened in 1898, complete with wooden station building on the Up side and a similar shelter on the Down, both since demolished.
There is a train maintenance facility on the Down side here. Prior to the maintenance depot being built, the site was the rail freight depot for Belfast. In this guise, it had been built on the site of the former GNR(I) loco sheds, which closed in 1966, having opened in 1911
on land reclaimed from a bog. The rail freight depot consisted of one main siding off which there were four loop sidings and six terminal sidings. There was also a 35 tonne gantry, six cement silos and a loading bank adjacent to one of the loop sidings.
