The main station building, built in 1878 designed by W H Mills, GNR(I) chief civil engineer and refurbished in 1995 is on the Up side and contains a shop, ticket office, waiting area and toilets. Outside, there is a car park. There is an island platform on the Down side with the signal cabin, closed in 1984, at the Dublin end of this. There is a shelter on this platform. Both platforms have canopies on them, with that on the Up side having the initials "GNRI" wrought into the ironwork.
The former goods yard is at the Dublin end of the station on the same side and contains a water tower (this is hidden by trees). The area is used by the Permanent Way department. There is an interesting footbridge which connects both platforms and continues on out of the station to provide external access on the one structure. The 'station' part of this was originally covered. There is a water tank at the Belfast end of the Down platform and a water column at the Dublin end of the Up platform. The closed line to Antrim trails in on the Down side at the Belfast end of the station. There was an accident here in 1978.
