Approaching the station, there is a quarry on the Down side on the hill above the town. There are both Up and Down platforms here with a footbridge connecting the two. The station building here, which is on the Up platform, is an impressive piece of railway architecture
in a Baroque style. The signal cabin is at the Waterford end of this platform, behind which is the former goods area, now largely filled in. There is a waiting shelter on the Down platform and previously, there was a loco shed behind this platform. The line to Palace East,
closed in 1962, diverged on the Down side at the Waterford end of the station.
