Site Description
Approaching the station, there is a disused loading bank on the Down side. Glounthaune (formerly Cobh Junction) is the junction for the branch to Midleton, which reopened to traffic on 30th July 2009. The line to Cobh curves away to the right leaving the station, whilst that to Midleton diverges slightly left before continuing straight ahead, arising out the latter's status as the original mainline to Youghal - the line to Cobh was the branch. The disused station building is on the Down platform. This is an interesting wooden structure, in which the signal cabin was located in the centre of the building. A footbridge at the Cobh end of the station connects both the platforms.Photographs
