Site Description
There is a siding on the Down side approaching the station. The former goods yard is on the same side and contains three sidings, a turntable and goods store. The former has been separated from the latter and is now in use as a bus depot. There are both Up and Down
platforms and a south facing bay behind the latter at this station. The loco shed and servicing area were behind the Up platform. This area is now used for bus parking. The station building is on the Down side. This has been extended with a new circular structure to create
an integrated bus/rail station. There are canopies on both platforms, which are connected by a lift accessible footbridge midway along the platform.
There is a 5 gate level crossing at the Derry end of the station, after which, on the Up side is the signal cabin, complete with station name. Opposite, the line to the original Bann Bridge diverged. A section of this was retained upon the opening of the present route to
allow for access to the Coleraine Harbour branch, which had opened in the interim. This closed in 1963. The signalling relay room is located on the junction of this. There was previously a water tank on the Down side, opposite, the branch to Portrush diverges.
