Site Description

Kincasslagh Road was a small station with one platform on the Up side. There is a waiting shelter on this. The level crossing keeper's cottage is on the Down side at the Letterkenny end of the station. The station here did not open with the line. The dispute between the Londonderry and Lough Swilly Railway and the Commissioners of Public Works over the perceived inadequacy of the line handed over to the former was referred to arbitration with Sir Charles Scotter - Chairman of the London and South Western Railway - as arbitrator. His decision - the Scotter Award - required the building of the station at Kincasslagh Road, which opened in 1913. Looking at the historic OS maps online, this location shows only a level crossing at this point, due to the station not having been opened with line.
