Site Description

Opened in 1977 to replace Ballymacarett, there are two platforms at this station which was renamed from Bridge End on 28th March 2012. There is a footbridge midway along the platforms. At the Central Junction end of the station, the line from Queen's Quay trailed in on the Down side. This remained in use as the Central Services Depot until the opening of the cross harbour line in 1994 enabled the CSD to be transferred to York Road, the purpose of which was to allow the completion of a road network through Belfast. The BCDR mainline to Comber and beyond diverged on the Up side at the Bangor end of the station. Due to redevelopment, the site of this is not distinguishable. However, the trackbed has more or less been retained intact for roughly 5 miles as far as Dundonald. The cranes of Harland and Wolff can be seen on the seaward side of the line here.
