Site Description

Broadstone was the Dublin terminal of the MGWR and originally served the lines running to Galway (via Moate), Westport/Ballina, Sligo and Cavan, as well as branches to Edenderry and Kingscourt. The station building (in an Egyptian style) remains in use today as the head office of Bus Eireann with the trainshed in use as a garage. The southern part of the station site is used by Dublin Bus as Phibsborough bus depot. In addition to the normal station facilities, the MGWR works were located here and included a paint shop, boiler shop, smithy, carriage shed, engine shed, wagon shops and a roundhouse. The LUAS now runs in front of the station building and passes between the Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann garages before joining the original MGWR trackbed north of the station en route to Liffey Junction.
