Site Description

The station building here is on the Up side and contains the ticket office, waiting area and a pub/restaurant known as "The Bloody Stream". There are both Up and Down platforms. The line was extended east in 2005 to accommodate platform extensions. The disused signal cabin is on the Up side, approaching the station, behind which is the signal interlocking. There is an electrical switch house behind the Up platform. The Hill of Howth Tramway trailed in behind the station building and had it's own platform between the station building and the cabin. This previously connected to the railway on the Dublin side of the station, also serving a paint factory, however, all trace of this has been removed due to redevelopment. The bridge abutments of the tramway remain outside the station, beside which is the former stationmaster's house, now a private residence. Near the station is Howth Castle, ancestral home of the St. Lawrence's and the base of the Irish Transport Museum.
