Site Description

Level crossing. South of the crossing is the station, with the station buildings on the Up platform and a footbridge connecting the two platforms. There is a shelter and a disused signal cabin on the Down platform, both at the north end of the station. Like Sandymount, the station has had a chequered existence having opened in 1835, closed on 10th May 1841, reopened in 1850 and closed again on 10th October 1860. The station was subsequently reopened but closed again in 1960 and was then reopened on 6th June 1972. Between here and Merrion, there is an external footbridge across the line.
