Site Description
Approaching the station, there is a water tower and a disconnected turntable on the Down side. This was previously a locomotive area and is now used for PW storage. There is an access shaft from the turntable pit to the culvert under the water tower. The branch to
Attymon, closed in 1975, diverged on the same side beyond these. WESTRAIL had hoped to preserve and reopen the branch, but failed to do so, the line being lifted in 1988. A significant proportion of the trackbed is now under a modern road south of Dunsandle
Station. At Attymon, the trackbed has been used as a modern access road (2006) to the station.
The signal cabin, a block post until 1986, was between this and the mainline. There are both Up and Down platforms here, but that on the Up side is disused. The disused goods store is on this at the Galway end of the station and is currently (2023) undergoing adaptive
reuse. The Down platform is triangular, one face having been for the branch line.
