Site Description
The station here closed in 1963. There are both Up and Down platforms with the running line serving that on the Down side - the Up platform was served by a loop. The signal cabin, a block post until 1980, is on the Up side at the Limerick end of the station. The former
goods area, which contains a store, loading bank and site of a siding is at the Limerick end of the station on the Down side. At the Claremorris end of the station, there is an accommodation crossing.
The station building is on the Down platform was was initially restored to its former physical glory by WESTRAIL and later in connection with the station's status as "Castletown" in the movie "The Quiet Man". In recent years, artwork has been placed on the track, ensuring
that no trains can run.
