Site Description

There is a water tower on the Down side on the before the station, beside which is the signal interlocking and radio aerial. There are both Up and Down platforms here with the bricked up station buildings, now in use as offices, on the Up platform. There is a shelter and a water column on the Down platform, behind which, there are a number of disused sidings, where there was previously a bay for Mayo line trains. At the Westport end of the station the former goods shed and two road loco shed are on the Up and Down sides respectively. The loco area contains it's own water tank. There was a separate siding serving the goods store. On the Westport side of these, the line crosses a disused section of canal, the headrace for the Athlone lock on the Shannon.
