Site Description
There is the remains of a water tower at the Limerick end of the station, immediately after the viaduct. There is a plaque inside the building commemorating the 1955 Cahir Viaduct accident and another erected more recently on the platform frontage of the building. The Down platform has been disused since the signal cabin, which was located at the Rosslare end of same, was closed as a block post in 1988. There is also a roofless waiting shelter on this. The footbridge connecting the two platforms remains. The former goods area is on the Up side at the Rosslare end of the station. There were previously sidings on the same side, one of which ran in front of the station building to serve the goods area proper, which included a goods store and cattle bank. This siding was cut short upon disconnection and was used as a plinth for Deutz Loco No. G601. This has since been sold to the Irish Traction Group.Photographs
