Open in 1885, the station buildings are on the Down platform, which is served by the running line. There is a loop on the Up side serving the Up platform, at the Dublin end of which, there is a headshunt. Before this there is a disused loading bank. Crossing this and the running line is "Bolarney" accommodation level crossing.
The station name in Irish "CILLE MAINTAIN" is maintained in shells behind the Up platform (previously there was a similar display for "WICKLOW"). The disused signal cabin, of typical DW&WR design, i.e., located to one side of the footbridge, is on the Down platform.
