Dating back to the days of steam, Maynooth had a turntable, primarily to allow engines working the MGWR service to Maynooth to turn before
returning to Broadstone. This early commuter service was done away with by the GSR in 1928. All traces of this facility have now disappeared, the
engineering depot on the Down side at the Sligo end of the station occupying the site.
