When the D&KR opened in 1834 it was to a temporary terminus at Dunleary, half a mile north of Kingstown proper. This location served as the
terminus until 1837. There was a level crossing here until 1983, when it was closed due to insufficient clearance under the overhead wires being
installed as part of DART. The footbridge was erected in lieu to maintain pedestrian access.
