Albert Quay was the terminus of the Cork, Bandon and South Coast Railway, one of the larger independent railways in Ireland, serving West Cork. It
was closed in its entirety in 1961, an act of folly that was only exceeded by the closure of the Harcourt Street line in Dublin.
