The station building at Sligo is terminal and sits atop a substantial embankment held in place by retaining walls. The Enniskillen Bundoran & Sligo Railway had intended to link up with the MGWR at Sligo, in which case, a Pearse Station style rebuilding may have become necessary. However, the EB&SR never got past Bundoran and so the station at Sligo has remained terminal in nature.
