Ballybrophy is a throwback to a railway past in that it is a location that only exists because of the railway. Used as a back door route into Limerick by
the GS&WR, the line from here to Killonan (about 4 miles east of Limerick) gave the GS&WR a connection to Limerick that left only 4 miles from the
city, rather than 21 miles at Limerick Junction.
