Kingscourt is a dead terminus in the middle of nowhere. Built by the Navan & Kingscourt Railway and taken over by the MGWR, it was part of a
plan to build an inland railway from Dublin to Belfast. When an independent company was formed to bridge the gap between Kingscourt and
Armagh, which would have completed the route, the GNR(I), anxious to ensure that they did not lose traffic on their line to Belfast, gave support to
this new entity on condition that the Kingscourt to Castleblayney section was dropped.
