Portarlington, like Athenry, has station buildings on both platforms which is an uncommon arrangement. The building was built at a cost of £498 but
let out to a caterer at £150 p.a.! The GS&WR also enforced a 10 minute stopover for passenger trains at the station a la the Shannon stopover of
the 20th Century!
