The station building at Howth is particularly large for a terminal station on a passenger suburban line. This probably reflected the aims of the D&DR
in hoping to secure the mailboat traffic for Howth (instead of Dun Laoghaire) - an aim they never achieved due to the unsuitability of Howth Harbour.
