Howth is a terminal station and this view is looking back towards the junction. The buffer stops have since been moved back further towards the harbour, in order to allow for platform extensions at the station, due to the appropriate refusal of Fingal County Council to allow Irish Rail to demolish the signal cabin at the station, a protected structure.
