In 1997, the platforms on the Northern suburban line had to be extended in order to eliminate the platform sections which ran under the adjacent road overbridge due to IR having obtained rolling stock that had insufficient clearance between the rolling stock and the platforms. The platforms passing under the bridge were a peculiarity of the line to Drogheda which arose because the line had been engineered to take a wider gauge than that used. This is the Up platform in the process of being extended.
