This is the only surviving example of a railway roundhouse on the island of Ireland. The Irish army made attempts to demolish the roundhouse at
Clones, but to no avail and it was decided to retain it. It has been in industrial use since railway closure at the end of 1959. As the only remaining
example of this type of railway feature on the island, this building is of national importance and should be retained.
