In the days of steam trains, water towers were located all along the railway line to allow the steam engines to be topped up. The supply would
usually be obtained from a local source and pumped up into a tank - either standalone or more commonly, a water tower would be built with a
storage room underneath.
This is a control mechanism in the water tower at Tubbercurry controlling the flow to the tank above.
