When the Leixlip Maynooth Kilcock bypass opened in 1994, the Straffan Road in Maynooth (crossing over the railway east of Maynooth station) was
rebuilt and widened to serve as an access road to the motorway for Maynooth. The original MGWR bridge was demolished and replaced by this
structure. The original bridge was closer to the station than its replacement.
