Opened in 1859 as the city terminus of the DW&WR, the Harcourt Street line and station were foolishly and short sightedly closed at the end of 1958. The station building has seen various non railway uses since and is presently a restaurant, nightclub and concert venue. In 2009, the arches under the station have been developed as retail outlets.
