Opened in 1895 and closed 40 years later, the line to Clifden was grant aided by the Government as part of its unofficial policy of killing home rule
with kindness. Whilst most lines built with Government assistance were narrow gauge, the Clifden line was taken under the wing of the MGWR who
built it as standard gauge to connect with the rest of their network. This bridge is immediately adjacent to Galway station.
