Can you stop bridges collapsing?

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

The BBC has an interesting article on why bridges collapse and what can be done to reduce the chance. Whilst not of Irish interest, bridges are bridges and the principles would apply equally in Ireland.

Roads Service refuses to mark Boyne Bridge

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

The Newsletter has reported that the Roads Service of Northern Ireland has refused to erect signage on a number of bridges in North Down, including one called the "Boyne Bridge"

The Roads Service said it "does not normally erect nameplates retrospectively to highlight the name of a bridge or other structure as this is not considered to be a good use of our limited resources".

They also stated that they "would not give permission for the erection of any nameplate on or within any publicly-owned asset for which DRD is responsible where the department is aware that it might cause controversy or upset community relations"
