The BBC has reported on a project to highlight the location above ground of culverted rivers in Belfast.

The 'Resounding Rivers' project will be a six site art feature to remind the people of Belfast of this hidden heritage.

Industrial Heritage Wiki

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

As mentioned previously, I have started to populate the Irish industrial heritage Wiki. To this end, as I process the photos I take of any particular location, I will simultaneously add these images to a dedicated Coppermine photo gallery for each location and will also create the IH Wiki entry for the site.

I have created the page for Florencecourt Station which can be viewed by clicking here.

Industrial Heritage Venues

Monday, April 26th, 2010

I have transferred the old list of places to visit with an IH interest from the WordPress system to the IH Wiki, as this allows for better information provision for each location so listed.

The list of venues on the island of Ireland with an IH interest can be accessed here.

The Quiet Revolution

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

In addition to being the name of a book published about the rural electrification scheme, this is the title of a blog post on the blog of Cllr. Kieran McCarthy of Cork City. Kieran writes regular pieces about the local history of Cork and many of these have an IH interest.

This post is in connection with electrification in Cork.

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

I came upon this courtesy of Irish Railway News. The estate has a nine hole golf course, which includes a short section of railway to get golfers between two holes on the course.

Mountain Mine, Allihies, Co. Cork

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

One of the many things I do in my spare time is explore abandoned mine workings. The photo below is from an abandoned copper mine in Co. Cork. If you are there at the right time on a sunny morning, the sun shines down one of the shafts and illuminates the mine.

It was only when I got home and loaded the photos up that I realised that the light on the rock looks like a head!
