Former museum sold as residential accommodation

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Lets open a museum say the locals. Unfortunately, the realpolitik of the situation is that this is only a stop gap measure in the preservation of a former local industry as once the capital grants run out and the initial enthusiasm wears off, the income coming in will not cover the costs of running a museum.

This example is in Wales but the principle applies equally in Ireland (north and south) just as much. Adaptive reuse, in this case as residential accommodation, offers the best prospect for retention in situ of such buildings.
