Water buoys repaint job gone wrong
The BBC has reported on a repaint job by Belfast City Council which really shows how such organisations should never be given responsibility for anything where heritage and historical significance count.
The buoys (which are more than 50 years old) form a memorial beside St Anne's Cathedral in Belfast, having been given to Belfast by the Commissioners of Irish Lights (the body responsible for maintenance of lighthouses around the coast of Ireland). The idea was that they should be painted in the colours of the pre 1979 Lateral System Buoyage.
Belfast City Council had other ideas, however.
