Ballymena and Larne Railway
The Ballymena and Larne Railway (B&LR) was a narrow gauge line running between those two towns with a branch to the town of Doagh, all in Co. Antrim.
When the Northern Irish Government did a hatchet job on the railway network of the statelet in the last century, they made sure that the railways were not coming back by requiring the adjacent landowners to buy back the alignment (surely there is a PhD study in this policy and its effect?). Nowhere is this more obvious than in the case of the B&LR. Apart from a few stations and a single bridge, the bulk of this line has been obliterated. Were it not for historic maps, you would not know that there had been a railway between the two towns.
Days Hotel Belfast - located in a lovely area of Belfast where the Union Jack flies from every lamppost and the kerbstones are painted blue white and red.
