The Irish Independent has an article about coastal erosion at the Murrough in Wicklow Town.
When the railway line to Wicklow Town was built, the Dublin & Wicklow Railway foolishly built this along the coast from Dalkey to Wicklow – a decision which has had ramifications to this day as the sea does what the sea does and erodes the land on which the railway sits.
Over the years, there have been multiple deviations of the railway – primarily on Bray Head and a long deviation inland from south of Killiney to north of Bray. In the 1970s, a 1 mile long section of the line from Greystones to Wicklow town was moved a short distance inland.
The time for pussyfooting around the issue is over and there is a need to determine the longterm future of this line (in its present form, it doesn’t have one).
5 years ago, I posted a suggestion on this site, which remains as valid today as it did then.
